In the coming weeks we’re going to bring you more information about our valued guitarists. They’re our most treasured jewels and they make our concert happen! Week after week we’ll get to know more about each and every one of these talented musicians that dedicate their time to be part of Strummin’. This week we meet Maria Attard.
Name: Maria Attard
Occupation: Student currently sitting for my A levels in Biology and Chemistry. I’m taking Maths, Philosophy and English as intermediate subjects.
All-time favourite band?
Current favourite song?
Little Black Submarines – The Black Keys
Current most-hated song: Anything Rebecca Black/Justin Bieber…
Which band/artist would you most want to watch live?
Is there a local artist you look up to?
Airport Impressions’ Errol Sammut, his voice is simply unique, and together with the band, they are achieving what they, and so many Maltese artists deserve.
When did you first participate in Strummin’?
My first one was Strummin’ Home 9 – All Time Favourites (2010) but Strummin’ Chroma X (2011) was the best one 🙂
How did you get to know about Strummin’?
Through a friend, I also got to see Strummin’ the 80s and I had to get on that stage!
What would you tell people who are interested in taking part in Strummin’ this year?
I know it may sound recycled, but “Just do it” seems to fit in this situation. It is an experience that you must go through to really embrace the true Strummin’ spirit. And in the words of the lovely Janice Debattista, “Strummin’ iħallik b’togħma tant tajba, li s-sena ta’ wara ma tistax ma tieħux sehem!”
When did you first start learning guitar?
It’s quite hard to get a proper year because it’s been an on and off relationship… But I’d have to say when I was about ten years old.
Are you involved in any other music-related projects?
Yes, actually I’m in band (as the vocalist) with two other fellow strummers; Alessia Micallef and Cheyenne Belle Xuereb plus the drummer Edward Bamber called “Fiction Spin“. Also, me and Alessia are working on an acoustic duo called “The Morals” but I guess it’s still a work in progress 🙂
Join us next week to meet up with another one of our talented musicians!
Till next time,
